This website is a personal portfolio operated by Kevin Bencs. This page explains what personal data is collected when you use the site, why, and what rights you have. I take a data-minimal approach: the site uses no cookies and collects as little as possible.

What data is collected and why

Contact form

When you use the contact form, the following data is processed:

  • your name
  • your email address
  • the content of your message

This data is used solely to receive and respond to your message. The legal basis is your consent and my legitimate interest in replying to your inquiry (Article 6(1)(a) and (f) GDPR).

Your message is delivered through Resend (an email delivery provider) and received in a Gmail inbox (Google). Both providers therefore process this data on my behalf.

Usage statistics

When a page on this site is opened, the following non-identifying information is stored in a database:

  • the path of the page visited (e.g. /portfolio)
  • the referrer (the page you came from, if any)
  • the date of the visit

No IP address, cookies, or other identifiers are collected, so this data is aggregate and does not identify individual visitors. It is used only to understand which pages are visited, based on my legitimate interest in maintaining and improving the site (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). This data is stored in MongoDB (database provider).

Hosting

The site is hosted on Vercel. As part of delivering the website, the hosting provider may process technical connection data (including IP addresses) in server logs. This processing is necessary to operate the site securely and is based on legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

International data transfers

Some of the providers above (Resend, Google/Gmail, Vercel) are based in the United States, so your data may be transferred outside the European Economic Area. These transfers are covered by the providers' appropriate safeguards, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and/or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

How long data is kept

  • Contact messages are kept for as long as necessary to handle your inquiry and any follow-up, and then deleted.
  • Usage statistics are kept for 12 months in aggregate form.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have the right to:

  • access the personal data held about you
  • request correction or deletion of your data
  • restrict or object to its processing
  • request data portability
  • withdraw consent at any time (where processing is based on consent)
